Will.i.am to Appear on ‘American Idol’ Mother’s Day Episode as Guest Mentor

American Idol has nabbed another famous guest mentor, this time for the upcoming Mother’s Day episode. Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am will appear with the show’s Top 7 as they perform tributes to their mothers.
Will.i.am to Mentor ‘American Idol’ Mother’s Day Episode
The Mother’s Day episode of American Idol Season 20 will air this Sunday, May 8. The Top 7 contestants will deliver two performances each. One will be a cover of a viral TikTok song, and the other will be a song dedicated to their mother or mother figure.
According to Billboard, Will.i.am will appear to offer advice to the contestants as they vie for America’s vote, which will narrow down the competition to the Top 5. The Top 7 contestants are Leah Marlene, Jay, Noah Thompson, Fritz Hager, HunterGirl, Nicolina, and Christian Guardino.
Will.i.am has plenty of talent show experience. He’s been a coach on The Voice UK and recently judged the FOX singing competition show Alter Ego. The rapper and record producer is one of several stars who have appeared as mentors this season, including Jimmie Allen, Bebe Rexha, Gabby Barrett, and Derek Hough.

The Season 20 Competition Is Winding Down
This past Sunday, the competition was narrowed down from the Top 10 to the Top 7 after Disney Night. The contestants took a break on Monday, as the show aired a reunion episode marking American Idol‘s 20th anniversary.
The Season 20 finale will air Sunday, May 22, on ABC. The episode will feature a performance from Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt, who was previously announced as the Disney Week mentor but had to be replaced by Derek Hough.
