Country star Morgan Wallen took to social media on Thursday to share why he decided to re-record an early song of his called “Spin You Around.” This is in response to a recent re-release of an EP against his wishes.
Morgan Wallen Shares Re-Recorded Version of ‘Spin You Around’
“Back in 2014, I went to Florida to try my hand at making original music & songwriting for the first time,” Wallen wrote in his social media post. “This led to a recording deal with a local investor & an artist management deal that I deeply regret. Unfortunately, I signed both deals without any legal representation.”
Wallen explained that he made 13 songs as part of this deal, five of which were released on an EP called Stand Alone, including the fan favorite track “Spin You Around.” He shared that his former colleagues were releasing a “10th Anniversary” edition of the EP against his wishes, featuring eight bonus tracks.
“For months I’ve been exploring every avenue possible to acquire the rights to this old music & keep the quality of my catalog consistent with songs I choose to release & believe in,” Wallen wrote. “It’s gross, greedy & an example of how the dark side of the music business can suck the soul out of artists.”
Wallen ultimately decided to re-record the song “Spin You Around,” releasing it on Thursday night. He also shared that he’s donating $100,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to the Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals For The Arts (VLPA) program.

Wallen Is Recording His New Album Soon
Wallen wanted fans to know that the re-release of Stand Alone is not his new music, adding that he’ll start recording his next project at the end of February. As he wrote on social media, “I’m feeling inspired creatively & super excited to make more music I’m proud of.”
The singer said of the tracks that were just released, “I cringe when I listen to these songs & I’m concerned my fans may mistakenly believe this is a new release by me.” He ended his post by telling fans, “Trust me, when new music is ready, you’ll hear it directly from me.”
Wallen released his most recent album, One Thing at a Time, last March.
