Next season of American Idol will feature a familiar face. The ABC series recently held a vote to give one of three former contestants a second chance on the show. The winner was announced on the Dancing with the Stars finale Monday night.

Season 16 artist Layla Spring, as well as Season 17 artists Logan Johnson and Shawn Robinson, performed during Sunday’s AMAs for America’s vote. The contestant who will return in Season 18 was announced to be … Layla Spring!

Layla Spring Returns To ‘American Idol’

Kentucky girl Layla Spring competed on Season 16 of American Idol in 2018 when she was 16 years old. Now 18, Layla performed “Blown Away” by former Idol winner Carrie Underwood at Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood for a second chance on the show.

Layla’s performance was shown during the American Music Awards Sunday night, along with Logan’s and Shawn’s. Viewers could vote overnight for their favorite. During the DWTS finale, Idol judge Lionel Richie announced Layla as the winner of America’s vote.

So what does this mean for Layla? It means she has a golden ticket to Hollywood Week on the next season of the American Idol. Considering last season’s winner Laine Hardy won after being eliminated from the show the year before, there’s a chance Layla could go very far.

When Does Season 18 Of ‘Idol’ Premiere?

It was recently announced that Season 18 of American Idol will return February 16, 2020, on ABC. All three judges — Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan — will return to the show. Host Ryan Seacrest recently announced the date on Twitter, with cameos from the judges and mentor Bobby Bones.

The season has already started filming, and the judges have certainly been handing out golden tickets. But we won’t get to see who will join Layla in Hollywood until the premiere. We can’t wait to hear what the newest batch of singers has to offer, and see how far Layla will go!
