What To Expect From Tonight’s ‘The Voice’ Premiere
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Voice Season 17 premieres tonight on NBC. It’s the first season of the show not to feature Adam Levine, and also marks the return of Gwen Stefani. Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and reigning champion John Legend are all returning as coaches.
Let’s take a look at what we can expect from tonight’s premiere, from new coach dynamics to the first four-chair turn of the season. We can’t wait to tune in and see this season’s amazing talent.
The Return Of Coach Gwen Stefani On The Voice After Adam Levine Leaving
By now, you’ve probably heard that longtime coach Adam Levine has left The Voice. He’s been replaced by former coach Gwen Stefani. This will be Gwen’s fourth season on the show.
“I’m back, and this is my season to win,” Gwen said in a preview for the season. The singer has yet to win any of her previous seasons, so this could finally be her year. Check out our post detailing Gwen’s highs and lows on the show.
Why did Adam leave the show? The former coach wrote on Instagram, “For me, it was time to move on.”
A Shefani Lovefest On The Voice
In a preview for the season, Gwen says she’s happy to be back on the show with her “best friend Blakey,” aka boyfriend and fellow coach Blake Shelton. The couple met on the show in 2014 and started dating the next year.
“She literally makes my day 100 percent better,” Blake said of Gwen’s return. He might have spoken too soon, since it looks like Gwen is going to block Blake at some point during the blind auditions.
This season will be a must-watch for Shefani shippers, as the pair is likely to have some adorable interactions amidst their friendly rivalry.
The First Four-Chair Turn Of The Season On The Voice
The Voice released a sneak peek of this season’s first audition, and it’s an impressive one. All four coaches turned their chairs for Katie Kadan’s performance of “Baby I Love You” by Aretha Franklin.
Katie is from Chicago. She said she’s been performing for eight years, explaining, “I was afraid to perform. I was a chubby chick living in a skinny girl’s world.”
“You’re perfect for this show,” John Legend told her after her performance. “You’re gonna do so well.” Kelly Clarkson said she was “already 100 percent in” before she even turned her chair.
Blake Shelton Blocks Kelly Clarkson On The Voice
The premiere’s first audition also features the season’s first block. Blake Shelton blocked Kelly Clarkson from taking Katie Kadan for her team. It took Kelly a little while to realized she was blocked.
Blake tried to deny blocking her, but John Legend said he was lying and called him “Block Shelton.” Kelly was none too happy about it. “I am gonna take you down, Shelton!” she told him. Who doesn’t love a little Kelly/Blake drama?
