Furious Kelly Clarkson Blocked By Blake Shelton On ‘The Voice’ First Audition [Full Video]

So far, most of the promos we’ve seen for The Voice Season 17 have focused on the coaches rather than the contestants. However, we’re finally getting a sneak peek of the first blind audition this season, and it’s packed with drama.
The video keeps even the fans in suspense of who the singer is until halfway through the performance. She ends up turning all four chairs. Coach Blake Shelton, meanwhile, wastes no time blocking Kelly Clarkson. [Read on to find out more about the artist Katie Kaden]
Blake Shelton Blocks Kelly Clarkson
John Legend is the first coach to turn his chair for the artist. Kelly is clearly digging the powerful female voice on stage, but she takes a little too long to press her button. By the time she turns around, Blake has already blocked her. Gwen Stefani is the last coach to turn around.
Kelly remains oblivious at first, but she gets pretty annoyed when she realizes she’s blocked, even getting out of her chair to stomp on the word “Blocked.” After the performance, she goes up on stage to hug the singer and compliment her, even though she won’t be on her team.
Kelly Clarkson vs. Blake Shelton: Is Kelly The New Adam Levine?
Blake Shelton needs a new enemy on The Voice after his long-standing rival Adam Levine left the show. There are signs that Kelly Clarkson is taking on that honorable role for The Voice Season 17. There seems to be a bit of a beef between Kelly and Blake. Earlier this week, Kelly appeared on The Ellen Show and asked, “Blake Shelton, why do you hate me? I don’t understand, I’m so nice.”
Who Is Katie Kadan?
The artist auditioning is revealed to be a singer named Katie Kadan, from Chicago. She says she’s only been performing for about eight years. “I was afraid to perform,” she says. “I was a chubby chick living in a skinny girl’s world.”
John compliments her “energy,” telling her she’s “perfect for this show.” Kelly, meanwhile, laments the fact that she won’t have Katie on her team. “I am gonna take you down, Shelton,” she tells the country star, who tries to deny blocking her. John even gives him the nickname “Block Shelton.”
Find out which coach Katie Kadan picks when The Voice premieres next Monday, September 23, at 8/7c on NBC.
