Demi Lovato Opens Up About 2018 Drug Overdose

Demi’s drug overdose came just after news that The X Factor judge had broken her six years of sobriety. After fighting for her life, she went to rehab for three months. This four-part docuseries will give insight into exactly what happened during this dark time in Demi’s life.

“I had so much to say over the past two years, wanting to set the record straight about what it was that happened,” she says in the trailer for Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil. “Any time you suppress a part of yourself it’s going to overflow.”

During her near-fatal overdose, Demi actually suffered several medical emergencies in the hospital. “I had crossed a line that I had never crossed before … I snapped,” she says. “I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes [to live].”

Demi has always been very open with fans about her past struggles after she judged The X Factor in 2013. “I’ve been holding #DemiDWTD incredibly close to my heart, and now it’s time to share an inside look. This is only a short preview of what is to come” the 28-year-old singer wrote on Instagram along with posting the trailer.

Demi Will Also Get Candid About Other Major Moments In Her Life

The docuseries will also feature exclusive interviews with Demi’s family, friends and celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Elton John. “When you’re young and you’re famous, my god it’s tough,” Elton says in the trailer. It was filmed after Demi got engaged to ex-fiancé Max Erich in July. While it has not been confirmed whether or not the series will document their breakup, she does flash her bare ring finger in the trailer after a clip excitedly showing off her ring.

Another topic that Demi will get candid about is her sobriety. “I don’t even know why I’m sober anymore,” she says in the trailer. Sobriety has been a topic that Demi is not shy talking about.

“I think it’s important that I sit here on this stage and tell you at home or you in the audience or you right here that if you do go through this, you yourself can get through it,” she said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “You can get to the other side, and it may be bumpy, but you are a 10 out of 10. Don’t forget it. As long as you take the responsibility, you can move past it and learn to love yourself the way you deserve to be loved.”
