Tori Kelly Says You “Cannot Be Scared to be Silly” When Filming Animated Movies
Tori Kelly visited the Ellen Degeneres Show to promote the new animated film, Sing 2. Country star Brad Paisley guest hosted and the two chatted about the holiday season, the new film, the 2022 Grammys and more.
Kelly spoke about returning as Meena the elephant in Sing 2. The bright eyed singer was all smiles as she met Brad Paisley for the first time and revealed that it was her first time sitting on the “Ellen couch.”
Christmas vibes were still in the air as the two singers discussed the 2022 Grammys as well as doing voiceover work. Kelly is nominated for traditional pop vocal album for her A Tori Kelly Christmas album. She is also nominated in the album of the year category, for her work on Justin Bieber’s Justice album.
“I was not expecting it at all,” Kelly said of her nominations. “I did not know the nominations were being announced…It was a huge surprise and a huge honor. I hope I get to go.”
Tori Kelly on ‘Sing 2’ and Voiceover Work
In Sing 2, the follow up to the 2016 hit animation musical, Kelly plays Meena the elephant. The film has Kelly voicing a character with an exquisite singing voice, who previously overcame severe stage fright. For Kelly, voiceover work is an odd task to take on.
“It’s really fun and you cannot be scared to be silly,” Kelly said. “It is very awkward.”
Kelly gave kudos to Garth Jennings, the director of the film. She described him as a “kid at heart” who helped her get through the work. In all of the awkwardness of doing voiceover work, The Masked Singer alum still found familiarity in this particular career.
“It is similar to being in a recording booth and recording a song. That part I felt comfortable with,” she said.
Kelly wore a 70s inspired all pink Bella Freud original ensemble. She matched with pink nails and hoop earrings and finished her look with her signature curly hair. Kelly is closing out 2021 on a high note between her new movie and her new book The Curly Girl Blues. Sing 2 is currently in theaters.
