Meet The Youngest Contestant Ever On ‘America’s Got Talent’ — Where Is She Now?
You may think you know who the youngest solo contestant in America’s Got Talent history is, but you’re probably wrong. While the show itself has called Sophie Fatu its youngest talent, there’s a previous contestant who was even younger, and her name is Kaitlyn Maher.
In 2018, Simon Cowell called 5-year-old Sophie Fatu the show’s youngest contestant ever. While Sophie is definitely one of the youngest, Kaitlyn Maher was even younger when she auditioned for AGT Season 3 in 2008. She was only 4 years old!
Kaitlyn Maher Is The Youngest ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant
AGT producers apparently discovered Kaitlyn in a video posted online. Before her audition, Kaitlyn’s dad shared that she had been singing since she was 1 year old. “I hope the judges really like me and my singing,” she said before walking out on stage to perform.
For her audition, Kaitlyn sang “Somewhere Out There” from the movie An American Tail. The crowd gave her a standing ovation for her sweet performance. Judge Sharon Osbourne praised her for remembering the lyrics and following the melody.
Kaitlyn received three “yes” votes to go to the Las Vegas round. And her journey didn’t stop there. She made it all the way to the Top 10, singing songs like “What a Wonderful World” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Although she didn’t win the season, America’s Got Talent kicked off an amazing career for Kaitlyn.
Where Is Kaitlyn Maher Now?
In December 2008, Kaitlyn performed for former President George W. Bush at the White House Christmas tree lighting. She also performed the National Anthem at a Washington Nationals baseball game.
Kaitlyn signed a record deal in 2009 and released her debut album, You Were Meant to Be. She also broke into acting, voicing the character Tiny in the Disney movie Santa Buddies. She later appeared in The Search for Santa Paws and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups. Kaitlyn has done voice acting for various other children’s media, and also appeared on the Fox sitcom The Goodwin Games in 2013.
Now 16 years old, Kaitlyn has a YouTube channel with over 82,000 subscribers, where she posts vlogs and song covers. Her covers of songs “Find You on My Knees” and “Let It Go” (sung when she was 10 years old) have received millions of views. Her voice has only improved as she’s gotten older.
Kaitlyn is also the first-ever Child Ambassador for Compassion International, which aims to end child poverty around the world. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
