‘The Voice’s Girl Named Tom Cancels a Week of Performances Due to COVID-19
The coronavirus has officially put a pause on Girl Named Tom‘s ongoing summer tour. Band members, Caleb, Joshua, and Bekah Liechty have released a statement via social media confirming that they are battling COVID-19. Any cancelled tour dates will be rescheduled.
On June 21, Bekah Liechty took to Girl Named Tom’s social media to share the band’s COVID-19 diagnosis. The Voice singer began by releasing a statement on their Instagram stories, writing “we cannot play this week’s run of shows. We know Covid would catch us at some point, but WHY THIS WEEK?”
Ahead of their diagnosis, Girl Named Tom was set to return to their home state of Ohio on tour this week. Even though the statement explained that shows will be rescheduled, but the band is still heartbroken about the situation. The statement concluded stating that they will post rescheduled show dates in the future.
Girl Named Tom Fans Urge The Group to Fully Recover Before Returning to Tour
Following the group’s statement, they posted a one minute video to their page. Within the video, featuring Bekah Liechty, she emphasizes how excited they were to perform in Ohio. The group isn’t happy they have to cancel, but they understand that rest is the key to recovery.
“Thank you for understanding that we are humans and we’re not machines, covid was trying to catch us for a really long time and we were dodging it but now it finally caught us and I feel terrible,” she said. “It’s hit me really hard, I’m praying that my brothers don’t get hit quite as hard, but we’re taking care of each other the best we can.”
Girl Named Tom fans fled to the comment section to share their support of the group. Tons of commenters shared prayers and tips in the comments.
“Get well soon. You need to take care of yourselves. Covid wears you out besides being sick. Give yourself the time you need to recover fully! Don’t give yourself a deadline!” a fan wrote.
This sibling trio recently announced new tour dates for this summer, running from June to September. These new dates include major cities around the country including Memphis, New York City, and Boston. At this time, Girl Named Tom has not specified which shows they will be rescheduling.
Girl Named Tom has wasted no time getting to work since their historical The Voice win. They’ve been performing live for months, even after they lost their father to cancer in January. Reportedly, the trio has an album in the works, but in the meantime, they were featured on Mick Dimitri’s single.
