Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and John Legend set out to fill their teams with artists during the Blind Auditions. One thing became clear from the very beginning; Kelly, Blake and Gwen are fighting hard this year to beat Blake. John went as far as making a PSA against Blake. Kelly made sure to tell each artist considering Blake’s team that he is a “liar.”

Tamara Jade

Tamara Jade was full of personality during her audition taking on Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You.” She shared her story about how her grandmother came to America from Jamaica looking for a better life for her family. She previously performed at the VMA’s with Lizzo but the pandemic has slowed some of her performing plans. Kelly and John turned their chairs immediately once they heard her vocals. Gwen and Blake followed soon after making this a four-chair turn. All four coaches praised her vocals and her personality. It was a hard choice, but she ultimately chose to be on Team Legend.

Lauren Frihauf

Lauren Frihauf comes from a life on a farm and has been dedicated to rock music since she was a kid. The 16-year-old sang Melissa Etheridge’s “Come To My Window.” Both John and Gwen turned their chairs. Gwen complimented her “hugeness” being able to hit all of those notes. John said she has “so much potential.” It was no surprise that Lauren chose Team Gwen.

Joseph Soul

Joseph Soul grew up in a town in Hawaii without electricity but had a love for being a DJ since he was a kid. He even had a residency in Las Vegas but singing has always been his dream and he came to The Voice to pursue a solo career. He sang “Is This Love” by Bob Marley. Both Kelly and Blake pushed their buttons after a little discussion. Kelly loved his falsetto. Blake said that he has won the show before with a non-country artist. Joseph chose to be on Team Kelly.

Ian Flanigan

Ian Flanigan lives in an RV with his family and travels across the country to play shows. He sang “Colder Weather” by the Zac Brown Band. Blake was the only coach to turn his chair, making Ian a member of Team Blake. He complimented Ian for having a super-rich voice that nobody else has.

Hailey Green

Hailey Green is a female football player who has been playing since the age of five. The teen sang “Soulshine.” Unfortunately, no coaches turned their chairs for her but they all marveled at the fact that she is 14 years old.

Jim Ranger

Jim Ranger is a third-generation pastor. He fell in love with his wife after they grew up with similar backgrounds. He shed some tears talking about her. For his audition, he sang “Blue Ain’t Your Color” by Keith Urban. John, Gwen and Blake all turned their chairs. John called Jim “so so cool.” Blake bonded with him over playing at similar venues. Jim chose to be on Team Blake.

Eli Zamora

Eli Zamora said music has helped him learn English after growing up in Mexico. He sang a song in Spanish called “Ya Lo Se Que Tu Te Vas” by Juan Gabriel. Kelly was the only coach who turned her chair, making Eli a member of Team Kelly. “Your tone was so rich and gorgeous and romantic” Kelly said.

Payge Tuner

Payge Turner is originally from Trinidad and Tobago and described it as a culture shock when she moved to America. Payge sang “Call Out Out My Name” by The Weeknd. The happy couple Blake and Gwen both turned their chairs. Gwen complimented her control and how sexy her voice sounded. She ended up choosing to be on Team Gwen.

Corey Ward

Corey Ward has been doing music for 20 years and has used it to cope with some hardships in his life. His mother has been battling cancer but she was nothing but proud watching his audition for The Voice. He sang “Way Down We Go” but the coaches failed to turn their chairs for him.

Marisa Corvo

Marisa Corvo grew up in Staten Island, New York but moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue music in college. Her parents forced her into religion classes once they found out she was gay. But they eventually came around and have supported her at her gigs. She sang “Perfect” by Pink. Blake, Gwen and Kelly all turned their chairs. Kelly said she had “range for days.” Marisa ended up choosing to be on Team Kelly.

John Holiday

John Holiday blew the coaches away pretty much as soon as he opened his mouth. John Legend immediately turned around after the first note of the song and used his Block on Kelly. John Holiday is typically an opera singer. He was bullied for his high pitched voice and for being gay. Gwen called his tone “so retro.” Ultimately he chose to be on Team Legend.
