Gwen Stefani is returning to The Voice this season, joining her boyfriend Blake Shelton on the coaches’ panel. The pair met on the show in 2014, and have been dating for five years.
Blake recently shared how he feels about Gwen’s return with Entertainment Tonight, as well as spilling some details about what to expect from this season. Things will look a little different due to COVID-19 precautions.
Blake Shelton Reacts To Gwen Stefani’s Return To The ‘The Voice’
“Having Gwen back is very comforting to all the coaches,” Blake told ET. “We were all able to just go back to the game we already knew. We all know how to play each other at this thing. It felt like the old gang got back together again, and we’re having a blast.”
And it’s not just Blake who’s happy to have Gwen back on the show. John Legend shared that “we all love Gwen,” adding, “She’s such a kind person, she has such a great spirit and energy and I love having her back.”
Gwen herself said she’s “grateful” to be back, and added that although there are more rules in place because of the pandemic, filming this season has actually been “a little bit more exciting than usual.”
The singer also shared that she’s been writing music while spending the pandemic with Blake and her kids on his ranch in Oklahoma. Fellow coach Kelly Clarkson has also been working on new material, which Gwen has heard. “It’s very real, it’s very pure,” she said. “It’s just really good.”
What To Expect From Season 19
The Voice Season 19 will premiere on Monday, October 19, on NBC. The blind auditions were filmed earlier this year, with the coaches sitting eight feet apart. The audience appeared virtually, which Blake said minimized noise.
“We’re able to hear the artists in a way that we’ve never heard before — and we’re able to hear the insults coming from the other coaches in a way that we’ve never heard them before,” he told ET. “They’re really cutting through.”
Kelly Clarkson noted that they haven’t been able to hear live music lately because of the pandemic, which made the blind auditions “special.” She explained, “It stuck out more this season than it has any other season, because we knew to really appreciate it.”
The Voice also recently announced this season’s battle advisors. Julia Michaels, Leon Bridges, Miguel, and Kane Brown will join the coaches to help the artists through the second round of the competition.
