‘The Voice’ Recap: Three-Way Knockouts Begin with Two Steals
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice Season 22 returned on Monday night, as the Knockouts round began. This season, for the first time in the show’s history, the coaches matched up their artists for three-way Knockouts. There also wasn’t a Mega Mentor this season, as we’ve come to expect from this round.
For the Knockouts, the coaches are each allowed to steal one artist from another team, but they can’t save any of their own artists. This made for some tough decisions, as they could only choose one out of three team members to move on. On Monday’s episode, two artists were stolen.
Gwen Stefani Steals Kevin Hawkins from Team Blake
The episode opened with an impressive Knockout on Blake Shelton’s team, as Bodie, Kevin Hawkins, and The Dryes went head to head. Bodie impressed with his cover of “Better Now” by Post Malone, with Camila Cabello saying he sounded like a record.
Shelton agreed that Bodie gave the best performance out of the three, choosing to keep him on his team. He said there’s “something really special about what he does.” The Dryes were eliminated after their performance of “Chasing After You” by Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd.
However, Kevin’s performance of “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush (inspired by Maxwell’s version) impressed not just one but two coaches enough for them to push their steal buttons. Kevin had to choose between Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello. He ended up joining Team Gwen, saying it’s because she was the first one to turn for him in the Blind Auditions. She also blocked John Legend in the hope of having him on her team.

Blake Shelton Steals Rowan Grace from Team Gwen
The episode started with Stefani stealing one of Shelton’s artists, and it ended with Shelton stealing one of Stefani’s. It happened after an amazing Knockout between three teenage artists on Team Gwen — Kique, Destiny Leigh, and Rowan Grace.
Kique blew the coaches away with his unique cover of “Hey Ya” by OutKast, inspiring Cabello to say that “a star was born.” Meanwhile, both Destiny and Rowan gave great performances of “Impossible” by Christina Aguilera and “Vienna” by Billy Joel, respectively.
Stefani chose to keep Kique on her team. Unfortunately, Destiny was eliminated from the competition. However, Rowan will be continuing into the next round, as Shelton hit his button to steal her. At just 16 years old, she has a voice beyond her years.
Other standouts from Monday’s episode included four-chair turns Morgan Myles (who stayed on Team Camila) and Parijita Bastola (who stayed on Team Legend). The Voice will return for another round of three-way Knockouts on Tuesday night at 8/7c on NBC.
