Reading Time: 3 minutes
Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire have officially begun their The Voice season. Here’s everything that happened during the Season 28 premiere, and what you may have missed.
The Voice Season 28 Kicks Off With Four-Chair Turn
The first performance of the season was 20 year old Texas A&M student, Aidan Ross. He sang “Love in The Dark” by Adele, earning an almost-instant four-chair turn. After the performance, Horan complimented the singer, saying it was like Aidan wrote the song. Although Snoop Dogg made an entire poem to convince the singer, he chose to join Niall’s team.
Up next was Mindy Miller who sang “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” by Lainey Wilson. When Snoop Dogg turned, he blocked McEntire. This made Mindy on Team Snoop, by default. Bublé acknowledged that it’s hard for artists to not pick McEntire, so it says a lot that Snoop Dogg blocked her.
Shocking singer Max Chambers turned Bublé and McEntire’s chairs with his rendition of “I Want You Back” by The Jackson Five. The singer, who is 14 years old, played little Michael Jackson in Broadway’s MJ The Musical. Bublé complimented the singer’s abilities, then earned the team member.
Country Duo That’s Only Been Together For 14 Months Surprises
Next up was country singer Manny Costello singing “Almost Home” by Craig Morgan. McEntire was the first to turn for the singer, followed by Snoop Dogg. When giving her commentary, McEntire teared up out of pride for her genre. Obviously, Manny decided to join Team Reba.
Single mother and viral mail carrier Ari B came to the stage singing “Are You That Somebody” by Aaliyah. Unfortunately, she did not earn a chair turn.
Country trio Dek of Hearts took the stage singing “Heads Carolina, Tails California” by Jo Dee Messina. The trio quickly turned the chairs of all four coaches. Coaches complimented the group for how solid their harmonies for, since they’ve only been together for 14 months. Dek of Hearts chose Horan as their coach.
The next singer that took the stage was Peyton Kyle, he sang “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars. He turned the chair of only McEntire, joining her team by default.
The next auditioning singer has applied to be on The Voice 11 times, yet this is the first time he’s ever made it to the stage. Ralph Edwards earned a four-chair turn for “Lights” by Journey. To convince Ralph to join his team, Snoop Dogg brought his family out on the stage. Somehow, this tactic worked perfectly, since the singer decided to join his team.
Carson Daly Uses Carson Callback in First Episode
Up next was 21-year-old Jack Austin, who sang “This Town” by Niall Horan. Bublé was the first to turn his chair for the singer, followed by Horan, and McEntire. The Broadway-esque version of Horan’s song earned him a duet with the original singer. Understandably so, Jack decided to join Team Niall.
25-year-old Ryan Mitchell came to the stage singing “Cigarette Daydreams” by Cage The Elephant. Unfortunately, coaches didn’t turn for him. Instead, Carson pulled out his card, giving Ryan the Carson Callback card.
The final audition of the night was singer Jazz Mckenzie, who sang “What’s Love Got to Do With It” by Tina Turner. The first coach to turn was McEntire, who blocked Snoop Dogg. Next to turn was Horan, followed by Snoop Dogg, and Bublé. After sending out three irish dancers, Bublé ended up winning this artist over.
The Voice returns to NBC for the second half of the Blind Audition on Tuesday, September 23 at 8PM ET. Immediately following is the America’s Got Talent Finale.
