‘The Voice’ Recap: Battles Continue with Powerhouse Matchups
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice Season 22 returned on Tuesday night, as the Battles continued and the coaches narrowed down their teams. The episode picked up from Monday’s cliffhanger, as Blake Shelton chose to keep Austin Montgomery on his team, eliminating Tanner Fussell.
The night featured some amazing matchups, and the coaches had a hard time choosing between their artists. At the end of the episode, Camila Cabello used her only save of the season on her first Battle as a coach.
‘The Voice’ Battles Continue, Coaches Pair Up Artists
The first Battle of the night was between Gwen Stefani’s teenage artists Jillian Jordyn and Rowan Grace. After being mentored by Stefani and Battle Advisor Sean Paul, the singers teamed up to sing “Fingers Crossed” by American Idol alum Lauren Spencer-Smith.
Both artists sounded amazing in the Battle, but Stefani had to choose one of them to move on. She ultimately chose 16-year-old Rowan Grace, saying she’s “already ready to make a record.” Even though John Legend turned for Jillian’s audition, he didn’t steal her. She was eliminated.
Next up, Legend’s team members Dia Malai and Valarie Harding took on Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows” for their Battle. They were shocked to learn that their Battle Advisor was none other than Sullivan herself.
The singers delivered a fierce performance of the revenge anthem, as Shelton said they scared him. Ultimately, Legend chose to keep Valarie on his team. Dia failed to receive a save or a steal, so she was eliminated.

Camila Cabello Saves Her Artist After Powerhouse Battle
The night ended with a powerhouse matchup on Team Camila, as four-chair turn Morgan Myles went up against one-chair turn Steven McMorran. The pair put all their emotion into a performance of “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. It seemed more like a duet than a Battle.
The coaches praised the performance, with Stefani saying “it’s crazy how great your voices sound together.” Cabello said she was “welling up with pride.” She ended up picking Morgan as the winner, but she surprised Steven by choosing to save him.
Cabello told Steven that she thinks “people don’t know what you can do yet.” Steven will move on in the competition on Cabello’s team along with Morgan. The coach won’t be able to save any more artists, but she can still steal another coach’s eliminated artist later in the Battles.
The Voice Season 22 Battles will continue next Monday night at 8/7c on NBC.
