How Does ‘The Voice’ Fan Week Work? Here’s How to Suggest Songs

Over the past several years, The Voice has included a Fan Week in each season of the show. During this stage of the competition (also called Fan Night), the remaining artists perform songs suggested by the show’s viewers.
You might be wondering how the show chooses which fan-suggested songs the artists should sing. It’s a more nebulous process than voting for who should move on each week.
‘The Voice’ Fan Week First Started in Season 13
During Season 13 of The Voice the show introduced a new twist for the singing competition series. The Top 11 contestants had to perform a song that was chosen by the fans. The decision to allow fans to choose the songs was met with mostly cheers, but some feared how it would work.
Viewers were able to suggest songs via Twitter and The Voice app. Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson, and Miley Cyrus along with the contestants would then select the song that best showcased their talent.
Fans showed that they kept the contestant’s best interest when suggesting songs. Fan Night went great and some of the best performances of the season happened in that episode. Janice Freeman rocked the house with “Shine” by Collective Soul. Levine praised Janice’s performance and told her that he was never a fan of the song but after her rendition he now loves it.
The show continued the tradition of fan choice in Season 14. This time, fans were asked to submit their song choices via Xfinity’s “Suggest-A-Song” feature in The Voice app. That season’s winner, Brynn Cartelli, performed Lady Gaga’s “You and I” on this night of the competition.

The Show’s App Is Key for Suggesting Songs
Recently, The Voice hasn’t been quite as clear about how fans can suggest songs for their favorite artists to sing. However, it seems like downloading the show’s app is the best bet for getting your suggestions out there.
One blog post from Season 21 suggests that fans shared their song choices on Twitter. However, there doesn’t seem to be any particular hashtag or tweet asking for recommendations. This isn’t to say tweets don’t influence the song choices at all.
More officially, fans can submit their choices on the app, which is available through the App Store or Google Play. The information page for The Voice Official App lists several features fans can enjoy, one of which is to “suggest the songs you want to hear the artists perform.”
One thing the show did make clear via Twitter in Season 21 was how to be considered for the video introductions which play before each artist’s performance during Fan Week. Fans were given an email address, to which they were asked to send a video stating their name, age, location, and top five favorite artists.
