The Masked Singer alum JoJo is taking her music career to a different level this time. In a few months, the singer will be making her debut in Broadway as Satine in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

JoJo to Embark on First Ever Role as a Broadway Diva

Last February 24, JoJo a.k.a Joanna Levesque announced the big news on her social media. As reported, the songstress will step on theater stage starting April 11 at Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre and will bid farewell on July 16. This project is a 14-week limited engagement that will practically allow JoJo to fulfill her musical aspirations.

On Instagram, the singer took the time to reflect on such surreal achievement. She also looked back on the first time that she watched Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

“When I first saw this musical I fell instantly head over heels in love,” she wrote. “I watched from the edge of my seat, hanging onto every word of every song.”

JoJo went on to describe the musical show, saying that it’s a “full on feast for the senses.” Thus, for her, to play Satine feels like the culmination of her many dreams.

“I cannot believe I get to join this phenomenal cast and company!!!! You guys blow me away!!!” she wrote.

The “Leave (Get Out)” hitmaker will star opposite Derek Klena as he comes back to the production as Christian. The story follows a charming young composer in the 1900s who heads to Paris, France. Eventually, he falls in love with a cabaret actor named Satine, one who is the star of the Moulin Rouge.

She Pays Tribute to Actress Who Plays Satine At Present

In the same Instagram post, JoJo honored Ashley Loren, the theater actress who is currently playing Satine. Evidently, The Masked Singer alum looks up to this artist, branding her as a badass vocalist.

“Special love & respect to @ashleyloren who currently SLAYS as Satine: theee most incredible badass singer actress artist i’m lucky to call friend and experience her sisterhood and generosity of spirit,” she wrote.

JoJo also took the time to express her appreciation to the people at the backstage. Calling them amazing producers and directorial staff, she thanked them for entrusting such important role to her.

“Performing on Broadway and living in NYC?! This is all a dream come true,” she wrote. “I know this show means so much to so many and I promise to put all I have into every single night as Satine.”
