The 5 Best Choir Acts In ‘America’s Got Talent’ History

AGT has had a number of choir acts over the years, but none of them have ever won the competition. This season, the Detroit Youth Choir is trying to change that. [Watch these 5 choirs and scroll down to pick your favorite]


The group of talented young singers earned the Golden Buzzer from host Terry Crews on Tuesday’s show, and will go straight to the live shows. Inspired by their talent, let’s look back at the previous choir acts who made it farthest in the competition.

1. Angel City Chorale

This diverse choir of more than 160 people wowed the judges in Season 13. They auditioned with “Africa” by Toto and earned four “yes” votes from the judges. During the Judge Cuts, guest judge Olivia Munn hit the Golden Buzzer for them after their performance of “Batu Yetu.” The group made it to the Semifinals.

2. Voices of Hope Children’s Choir

This choir of more than 70 kids of various ages also appeared on Season 13 of AGT. They auditioned with “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. During the Judge Cuts, guest judge Ken Jeong hit the Golden Buzzer after their performance of “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. The group made it to the Semifinals.

3. The American Military Spouses Choir

In Season 8, this talented group of military spouses choir auditioned for AGT with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” All four judges voted “yes.” They later performed Mariah Carey’s “Hero” and Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.” They were eliminated in the Semifinals.

4. Musicality

This vocal group from Season 11 consisted of high school students from a rough part of Chicago. They auditioned with a performance of “Night Changes” by One Direction and earned four “yes” votes. The group made it to the Semifinals after performing songs like “One Last Time” and “Skyscraper.”

5. In The Stairwell

This a cappella group from Season 12 was made up of cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy. After auditioning with One Direction’s “Drag Me Down,” they performed such songs as “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran and “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC. They made it to the Semifinals.
