Terry Crews Presses Golden Buzzer as AGT Continues

Before their audition, the Funkateers told the judges that they’ve been dancing together for 45 years, since getting together to compete in their high school talent show — which they won. When asked if they thought they could win, they responded, “We know we can win.”

The four members of the group went on to perform an incredible dance routine that lived up to their funky name. The crowd went wild for the performance, and Crews could be seen watching from backstage and expressing his excitement.

Judge Sofia Vergara called the group’s act “perfect,” adding that they’re “what AGT is all about.” Howie Mandel pointed out that their age at the audition made it “even better” to watch. While the judges were giving their thoughts, Crews walked out from backstage.

The host pressed the Golden Buzzer to send the Funkateers straight into the Season 20 live shows. Simon Cowell complained that it “was supposed to be mine,” but he was apparently too slow. As Crews said of the act, “It proves that age ain’t nothing but a number.”

Simon Stops 13-Year-Old Singer Mid-Song

Would it even be an episode of AGT if Simon Cowell didn’t stop a singer mid-performance and suggest they sing something different? That’s exactly what happened during Tuesday’s show when 13-year-old Chase Varnes took the stage.

Chase shared that he’s been playing drums since he was 4, and he recently taught himself to play guitar. He said that his dream is “to play on a world stage and make people happy.” For his audition, Chase began performing an original song.

He seemed nervous, and it was hard to hear him. Cowell stopped Chase in the middle of the song, asking if he had something else to sing. Chase went on to perform a cover of “Life Goes On” by Ed Sheeran, showing off a strong voice that had the audience cheering.

The AGT judges were impressed by Chase’s performance, with Howie Mandel saying he reminded him of “a young Justin Bieber.” Sofia Vergara predicted that the “girls are gonna go crazy for you.” Mel B was the only judge to vote “no,” saying he’s “not quite there yet” because of his nerves.

Who Else Impressed the Judges?

Several other acts impressed the AGT judges during Tuesday’s show, including the acrobatic act Duo Soma. Their daring routine had the judges on the edge of their seats, and they ended up giving the couple a standing ovation. Unfortunately, Mel B still voted “no.” However, the other judges voted “yes” to sending them through.

Another impressive audition from this week’s show came from a group called Jonglissimo, who brought a unique juggling act to the stage with light and color. The panel gave them a standing ovation, with Mel B saying she “could have watched that forever and ever.” The group received four “yes” votes to move on.

Tuesday’s episode also featured a mysterious audition from a masked magician called Mastermind. He hacked into Howie Mandel’s phone and used it to manipulate reality. All four judges voted “yes” to sending Mastermind through.
