Team Legend’s Strongest Battle of the Night goes to Sabrina and Jack

Tonight was very interesting for Team Legend on The Voice. We were really able to see John Legend and Camila Cabello work one on one with Team Legend. Even though I questioned a lot of the Team’s song choices during the episode, this was by far their best performance of the night.

I’m not going to lie, we didn’t see any jaw dropping combinations like Girl Named “Tom” and Kinsey Rose on the second to last battle round episode. If any of the singers got close, it was Sabrina Diaz and Jack Rogan. They weren’t as jaw dropping as the members from Team Kelly, but this battle was pretty even. When Legend and adviser Cabello shared that their song would be “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift, I was concerned for the pair.

Was this Song Choice Based on Relevance Over Practicality?

I was extremely worried that this performance would feel like Keilah Grace and Joshua Vacanti’s battle from the beginning of the episode. Keilah and Joshua sang a great rendition of “Good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo, but it didn’t feel right for them. It felt like Legend was looking to have his team sing relevant music over something that may work better for their voices.

Instead, both Jack and Sabrina gave a beautiful performance. They both have light voices, so this song actually worked very well for both of them. Even though it was clear that Sabrina was the winner for the battle, both singers were amazing. Before The Voice, Jack did not have much on-stage experience, so it wasn’t really a surprise that his voice got weaker as the song went on.

In Jack’s audition, both Kelly Clarkson and Legend turned for his beautiful rendition of “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. He premiered a soft, relaxing tone that made the coaches love him. This song seemed like it would be a good pick for both artists considering the slow nature of the song. In the end Jack’s lack of on-stage experience was what killed his chances at the prize. He definitely could’ve taken this battle home with more experience.
