Pop star Tate McRae recently angered fans when she teased a potential collaboration with country singer Morgan Wallen on social media. Wallen, who previously competed on The Voice, has been at the center of a number of controversies in recent years.
Tate McRae Teases Collaboration with Morgan Wallen
On Tuesday, McRae took to Instagram stories to share a closeup photo of an orange sports jersey with a large “T8” on the front, referring to her name. The collar of the jersey featured the letters MW, in a design associated with Wallen.
Fans deduced from the photo that McRae could potentially be featured on Wallen’s upcoming new album I’m the Problem. Wallen has reportedly teased that the album, out May 16, will feature a collaboration with a female artist.
The realization that McRae could be the rumored female artist has angered her fans, who object to the singer working with a controversial figure such as Wallen. Most recently, the country star made headlines for abruptly leaving the set of SNL and soon after posting on social media, “Get to me to God’s country.”
He was previously canceled as a musical guest on the show in 2020 for breaking COVID-19 protocols. In 2021, video of Wallen using a racial slur went viral. The singer was also arrested last year for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar.

Fans Are Angry About the Potential Collaboration
Following news of McRae’s potential collaboration with Wallen, fans took to social media to make their thoughts known and express their disappointment. One user on X (formerly Twitter) called it “reputation suicide” for McRae.
“The way everyone thought Tate McRae was Britney’s daughter but the entire time she was Carrie Underwood’s firstborn,” wrote another user, alluding to Underwood’s controversial decision to sing at President Donald Trump’s inauguration earlier this year.
