In this thrilling first episode of 2018, Jack and Mel take on the onerous task of discussing the entertaining, over-the-top mini-trainwreck that was The Four: Battle For Stardom.
So, what can we say about The Four. It’s certainly not dull. From what we can tell it involves singers battling it out so they can sit in neon circle thrones and avoid being yelled at by Diddy or sardonically dismissed by Charlie Walk. DJ Khaled is…DJ Khaled and poor Meghan Trainor just wants to be nice to everyone.
There were definitely things we liked. It was exciting, the singers were pretty good, and there was a lot of diversity both in the singers and in the genre. But the the format and premise of the show are the biggest enemy it has. Having eliminated the auditions and warm-ups, the audience isn’t invested in the singers at all nor do they have time to become attached. In the first episode, half of the original four were gone. We’ll keep watching, will you?
