Suga from the South Korean group BTS has released solo music that has already made history. The rapper who uses the alias Agust D for his solo work became the first-ever Korean artist to have a number one hit on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart. The song “Daechwita” has been purchased more times than any other rap song in the United States this week.

“Daechwita” Is A Huge Hit On The Rap Charts

Fresh off the release of his song “Eight” with Korean popstar IU, Suga dropped his second mixtape D-2. He has said that it’s about his current view of the world including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It quickly became the highest-charting album by a Korean soloist in the United States. After hitting number one on the US Rap Sales Chart, “Daechwita” has also debuted at number nine on Billboard Spain’s Digital Song Sales Chart. He joins PSY as the only Asian solo-artists to chart there. It’s safe to say that he is an absolute global superstar that continues to make history.

With his persona of Agust D, he said that “there is a lot more that I can openly express and that I can show a more raw side to myself” in an interview with Forbes. As for this song, in particular, he said: “The first thought I had was that I wanted to sample the music that is played during the ceremonial walk of the King, so naturally, Korean elements ended up being an essential component to the track as well as the music video.” Suga said he made this the title track of his mixtape because he thought it would be a fun experience to film a music video playing the character of a king.

The Music Video Is Also A Smash Success

Another milestone for the rapper is that he has garnered over 70 million views on YouTube just on the video for this song alone. The video features traditional Korean storytelling and traditional music played by percussion instruments in the style of music called, Daechwita which he appropriately named the song after.

The video includes some gorgeous scenery at Dae Jang Geun Park, which is a famous historical drama set.

And another thing that had the BTS army freaking out about his music video is that BTS members Jin and Jungkook make cameos. They stage a hilarious play-fight in the video and though it is only a few seconds, it gives BTS fans another reason to continuously watch this colorful video. Check out this behind-the-scenes video of the making of this fight scene along with some other memorable moments from the music video.
