Reading Time: 2 minutes

The new songwriting competition series Songland debuts at the end of the month. But if you don’t want to wait to hear how some of music’s biggest hits were written, there’s now a podcast for you!

Songland has released four podcasts already with the celebrities from the show. Mentors Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally, along with EP Dave Stewart, have all discussed how they wrote their biggest hits. These songs include Beyonce’s “XO” and the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams.”

Once Songland begins, the podcast will function as a companion to the broadcast show. Episodes will go live each Tuesday night with select week guest artists, who will give listeners a look behind one of their songs. It goes hand-in-hand with the message of the show, which focuses on the songwriting process we don’t usually get to witness.

These stories are also just super interesting to hear! It’s crazy what goes on behind the scenes for artists writing and selecting songs. First of all, you get to hear the creative genius of these songwriters. It is not an easy job so it’s impressive that a lot of the biggest hits on the radio were written in less than an hour. But also some of the stories are legitimately just insane. Even hearing Ryan Tedder talk about being in a writing room with Beyonce when he wrote “Counting Stars” for OneRepublic! It’s a really small world when it comes to these superstars and songwriters.

If you didn’t already know, this show is dealing with some of the biggest names in music too! The first episode will feature Charlie Puth and later episodes will have will.i.am, the Jonas Brothers, Old Dominion, Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend, and more. The winning songwriters will have their songs recorded by these artists! Talk about a legit prize for the winner.

If you’re as excited as we are, you don’t have to wait long for it! Songland premieres on Tuesday, May 28th at 10pm ET on NBC. And you can listen to the companion podcasts online each week.
