‘LeBron James of Dance’ Auditions for SYTYCD

Anthony Curley shared that he dreamed of being on SYTYCD since he was a little kid. Now 18, Anthony performed a contemporary routine for his audition. He explained that his mom was always there for him when he thought about quitting.

His audition to “Higher” by Tems brought the judges to their feet. Maksim Chmerkovskiy said he was “still goosebumping” over the performance. Allison Holker was impressed by how high Anthony was able to leap. Chmerkovskiy described him as “the LeBron James of dance.”

Anthony wasn’t the only dancer to earn a standing ovation from the judges during this week’s show. Ali Deucher (who danced in Katy Perry’s Las Vegas show) wowed the panel with her emotional contemporary routine to “Ashes” by Celine Dion, bringing the judges to their feet. Holker was even brought to tears by the performance.

Drag performer Juicy Love Dion also earned a standing ovation, with the judges praising her acrobatic routine, which included flips and splits in high heels. Holker called Juicy “the full package.” All three judges voted yes to sending Juicy to the next round.

30-Year-Old Dancer Earns Final Spot in Choreography Round

This week’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance ended with an audition from 30-year-old dancer Victor Ramos, who has been dancing for 23 years. Since 30 is the maximum age to audition, this was Victor’s last chance to appear on the show.

Victor’s energetic routine to “Whoomp! (There It Is)” included an extended spin on his head. The judges were so impressed, they gave the dancer a standing ovation for the performance. Chmerkovskiy asked if Victor is “inspired to learn” and “take more in” at his age.

The dancer answered that he was, and the panel voted yes to sending him to the choreography round. During this second round of the competition, the 35 contestants who made it through the solo auditions will be narrowed down to the Top 10.
