‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Contestant Returns to Audition with His Girlfriend

So You Think You Can Dance returned this week for another episode of Season 17, and it featured a familiar face. Dancer James “Lord Finn” Thomas returned to the show with his girlfriend Brianna Grey after first competing when he was 18 years old.
Dancer Returns to ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
James, who is now 26 years old, first tried out for Season 11. He was eliminated in the choreography round and shared that he was “injured at the time, so it was a tough time.” James ended up becoming a street performer in Los Angeles.
James shared that he auditioned for the show again in order to encourage his girlfriend Brianna to try out. He said before his audition, “She’s a superstar, so I pretty much just wanted to set the tone for her.”
The dancer told the judges that he represents freestyle dance, with bone-breaking, Chicago footwork, and hip-hop elements. He went on to show off a routine in which he moved his arms into impossible-looking positions.
Judge JoJo Siwa said the performance was “so fascinating to watch.” Matthew Morrison said James lied about it being bone-breaking, joking, “You don’t have any bones.” Stephen “tWitch” Boss said James “can connect with an audience.”

James and Brianna Both Made It Through
Later in the show, Brianna auditioned for the judges. She said she struggles with confidence, but James’ support pushed her to take a chance. Brianna told the judges she wants to represent street dance on the show.
The dancer went on to show off an impressive and fluid routine that Boss called “a joy to watch.” Morrison said he could tell she was nervous, but he was wowed by what she can do and wants to see more.
Both James and Brianna received three “yes” votes from the judges to move on to the next stage of the competition. It will be interesting to see if James makes it farther than last time, although it will be sad if either he or Brianna goes home first.
