Simon Cowell Teases His ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Golden Buzzer

Britain’s Got Talent Series 16 started filming earlier this week, and Simon Cowell has already hit his Golden Buzzer. The show posted a clip of the judge gushing about the act. New judge Bruno Tonioli also reportedly hit his Golden Buzzer during this week’s tapings.

Simon Cowell Teases BGT Golden Buzzer Act

“That defined what a Golden Buzzer’s all about, in my opinion,” Cowell said to the camera as he stood behind the judges’ desk. “Just, when everything is perfect, and it’s a surprise, and it’s magical.”

The judge went on to say that all of the judges wanted to hit the Golden Buzzer for the act in question, adding, “Trust me, if it wasn’t me, someone else would have hit it. That’s why I was very quick.”

Earlier this week, BGT confirmed this year’s judging panel. Cowell will be back alongside fellow returning judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon. They’ll be joined by Bruno Tonioli, who is replacing former judge David Walliams. Ant and Dec will also be back to host.

There was a lot of chatter over the past few months about who would replace Walliams after derogatory comments he made about contestants were leaked last November. At one point, comedian Alan Carr was reported to be joining the show, but the spot ended up going to Tonioli.

Tonioli Also Hit His Golden Buzzer This Week

Cowell isn’t the only judge to hit the Golden Buzzer for an act during this week’s BGT tapings. Tonioli reportedly beat his other judges to the punch by doing the honors while the act was still performing. That’s the first time this has happened in the show’s history.

Twitter user Adam Khan, who attended the taping, shared that the show had to re-record Tonioli’s Golden Buzzer moment, because the cameras weren’t set up to properly capture it. Apparently no one expected him to push it when he did.

Khan also seemed to suggested in another tweet that it was actually Tonioli who encouraged Cowell to hit his own Golden Buzzer. This isn’t quite how Cowell described the situation, so it will be interesting to see what happens when the episode airs later this year.
