Former The X Factor judge Simon Cowell took to Instagram this week to share a congratulatory message for One Direction star Harry Styles on his recent accomplishments. Styles got his start on the UK talent show in 2010.

On Tuesday, Cowell posted a photo on Instagram in which he can be seen hugging Styles. As the music mogul wrote in the caption, “Congratulations @harrystyles! Very very proud of you!” He added the hashtags #BRITS and #GRAMMYS.
This is referring to Styles’ Album of the Year win at the Grammys earlier this month for his album Harry’s House, as well as his recent wins at the BRIT Awards, including in the Artist of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
Interestingly, many of the comments on Cowell’s post are pretty negative. This could be due to the animosity some One Direction fans feel toward Cowell following reports that the group was held to strict standards and had limited creative freedom under his management.
“He deserves everything and it’s bc of his effort and his family and friends, not you,” wrote one user on Cowell’s post about Styles. Another told Cowell to “keep his name out of your mouth.”

Styles Thanked One Direction at the BRIT Awards
During his acceptance speech for Artist of the Year at the BRIT Awards on Sunday, Styles mentioned his time on The X Factor and shared a special thank-you for his One Direction bandmates — Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik.
“I want to thank my mum for signing me up for X Factor without telling me, so I literally wouldn’t be here without you,” Styles said in his speech. “I want to thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn because I wouldn’t be here without you either. Thank you so much.”
Styles previously received congratulatory messages from both Payne and Horan on social media for his Grammys win earlier this month.
