Former The Voice Battle Advisor Shawn Mendes recently debuted a drastic new hairstyle, and fans are mourning the loss of his longer locks on social media. As it turns out, not everyone is a fan of the singer’s new buzzcut.
Shawn Mendes Debuts New Buzzcut, Upsets Fans
According to Page Six, Mendes was recently spotted dining outside in Los Angeles sporting a new buzzcut. The 24-year-old singer had most recently been seen in an Instagram video from Christmas Day in which he still had longer hair.
Fans have been sharing their sadness over the loss of Mendes’ longer, curly hair. One Twitter user even posted a meme in which the version of Mendes with a buzzcut squats next to a grave labeled “shawn’s hair,” with a photo of the singer before the chop.
Another user posted lyrics from Mendes’ song “When You’re Gone” to describe their feelings about the hair change: “Hold on, I don’t wanna know what it’s like when you’re gone.” There were also plenty of posts sharing photos of Mendes with longer hair.

The Singer Canceled His Tour Last Year
After initially postponing dates to focus on his mental health, Mendes ended up canceling the rest of his tour last year. The singer explained that he needed “to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger.”
Mendes promised fans that he would be back to performing “as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal.” He hasn’t been completely absent in the months since the cancelation. In October, he promoted his voice role in the movie Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.
“I think I needed some time just to ground and spend some time with family and friends and gain some perspective of how beautiful it is what I get to do for a living,” Mendes told Entertainment Tonight at the movie’s premiere.
