Sharon Osbourne Isn’t Doing Novelty Acts On ‘The X Factor UK’

One of the most controversial, (and perplexing), contestants on last season’s The X Factor UK was Honey G, a rapper that was…um…problematic. Sharon Osbourne was, of course, her biggest advocate. Apparently, Sharon isn’t going to back any novelty acts this year. That’s probably for the best.

The fans of The X Factor UK were truly perplexed when a rapper that can only be described as ‘whack’, Honey G, made it all the way to the live show. She’s got a lot of heart but is just, well, terrible. She makes Vanilla Ice look like Jay Z. It was Sharon who kept pushing her and mentoring her hip hop aspirations. Simon was, to put it mildly, not amused. Sharon caught a lot of flack for backing what many people saw as a novelty act. Due in part to the backlash, Sharon said she isn’t doing that this year. She said,
“It’s everyone’s reputation on the line when you are sat there. When you’re backing someone, like backing a three legged horse, it’s your reputation up there too at the end of the day. I’ve done my fair share of extreme characters, I just can’t do it again.”
This decision on her part is also probably influenced by Simon Cowell‘s plans to shake-up much of the format and way The X Factor is run. Though many fans love to watch a train wreck act, it is a waste of time ultimately because they don’t stand a chance of winning. We’ll see what happens when they are confronted by Danny Lambo.
