Shakira, Nick Jonas Say New Show ‘Dancing With Myself’ Lets People Express Themselves

Former The Voice coaches Shakira and Nick Jonas are teaming up for a new competition series on NBC called Dancing With Myself. The pair stopped by Today this week to talk about how the new show allows it contestants to express themselves.
Shakira, Nick Jonas Talk ‘Dancing With Myself’
Shakira and Jonas are dance creators on the new show, alongside actress Liza Koshy. Jonas admitted that he’s “not a dancer by trade,” prompting Today co-host Carson Daly to remark that, unlike Shakira, his hips do lie.
The great thing about the show is that it encourages even amateurs to share their moves. Shakira said the idea for the show came from seeing people share TikTok dances during the pandemic, “trying to find a connection with other people.”
“I think that what this show has … what this show offers is that platform, that access to people, for them to express themselves and shine, and really share their passion for dance,” Shakira said of the series.
Jonas added that the show puts a spotlight on “all different types of people from all different walks of life, different occupations.” The twelve contestants take on challenges from the creators. Jonas said “the spirit of performing” comes through in the resulting routines.

Jonas Talks About His New Baby Daughter
Jonas also briefly talked about his new baby daughter with wife Priyanka Chopra. Their baby recently came home from the NICU after 100 days. The singer called her “a gift,” adding, “We’re just so blessed that she’s back home.”
He went on to say that his “parents are thrilled” that the Jonas Brothers have had so many girls. In fact, none of them have boys. Kevin Jonas has two daughter with wife Danielle Jonas, and Joe Jonas has a daughter with wife Sophie Turner.
Shakira, meanwhile, has two sons named Sasha and Milan with her husband Gerard Piqué. Daly said the former The Voice coach set up a play pen on set when she appeared on the show.
Dancing With Myself premieres Tuesday, May 31 at 10/9c on NBC, after the two-hour Season 17 premiere of America’s Got Talent.
