Selena Gomez recently opened up about why she hasn’t stayed in contact with her Wizards of Waverly Place costars. During a virtual chat with Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise on their podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod, Gomez admitted that not staying in touch with her costars was one of her biggest mistakes in life.
Selena Gomez Was “Ashamed” of The Choices She Made After The Show
Gomez has been in the public eye since she was just a teenager, and she recently had a heart-to-heart conversation with her former co-stars from Wizards of Waverly Place about her past and why she lost touch with them after the show ended.
During a virtual chat on their podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod, Gomez was asked about her biggest mistake in life by her onscreen dad, played by David DeLuise. Gomez confessed that not staying in touch with her co-stars was at the top of the list.
Explaining why she drifted apart from her castmates, Gomez said that she felt ashamed of some of the life choices she’d made after Wizards wrapped. While she didn’t go into detail about the decisions she was referring to, Gomez has been open about her struggles with mental health.
At the age of only 15 years old, Gomez received an offer for the starring role of Alex Russo in the popular Disney Channel series, which lasted from 2007 to 2012. The main cast also featured Henrie and Jake T. Austin as Russo’s brothers, Maria Canals-Barrera and DeLuise as their parents, and Stone as her best friend, Harper.
Selena Gomez Was Close Friends With Jennifer Stone Even Off-Screen
Gomez’s willingness to open up about her struggles with mental health and the challenges she faced after Wizards of Waverly Place ended is a reminder that even those in the public eye face difficult times. The struggle she faced has even caused her off-screen friendship with costar Stone to die down.
“To be perfectly blunt, there have been times where I’m like, did we stop being friends because I didn’t tell her what she wanted to hear?” Stone said.
Gomez acknowledged that Stone’s remark was completely valid and expressed her love and appreciation for her former co-stars. Despite the challenges she faced, Gomez reflected on her time on Wizards as “the happiest” of her entire life.
