RuPaul’s DragCon Returns to Celebrate Drag Culture for Tenth Year
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Drag Race fans have a reason to rejoice. RuPaul’s DragCon L.A will return to in-person events this summer. Starting May 13 fans will be able to indulge in all things drag and queer culture. The annual DragCons in L.A. and New York were both canceled in-person events the past two years, only having virtual events.
DragCon is a chance for fans to meet their favorite queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race and its many spin-offs. There are also several panels that take place in which the queens speak about topics and answer fan’s questions. Several stages are located throughout the venue for performances.
The weekend-long event marks the tenth in-person DragCon. This year will be the first time that day one of the convention will have a full day of programming. Meaning fans will be able to experience even more queens. This decision makes sense seeing as though Drag Race has evolved since the event launched in 2015. The World of Wonder produced event also helps vendors bring in the cash. In 2018, both DragCons brought in over $8 million combined. The same year also saw over 100,000 visitors.
Two months before showtime, VIP tickets are already sold out. Fans can still score weekend passes for only $70 and single day passes for $40. Kids are able to attend for free.
DragCon L.A. Main stage
Queen of the Universe champion Grag Queen will take on the 2022 main stage alongside other popular Drag Race personalities such as Pangina, Honey Davenport, and Pandora Boxx. If fans are wondering if iconic Drag Race contestants will make an appearance, the answer is yes. The main stage will have mostly the queens who could sing live.
Other queens who have catapulted into popular culture will be in attendance. Mo Heart was recently announced to join in on the celebration. Mo Heart has become synonymous with Drag Race, having appeared in Season 10 of the show as well as the fourth season of Drag Race all-stars, and the recent season of Drag Race UK VS The World. JujuBee will also be in attendance. The performer has competed in five different Drag Race franchises.
Organizers have also announced that DragCon UK will return in 2023. Fans can expect to see queens featured in Drag Race Season 14 as well as the contestants who will compete when Season 15 premieres.
