Priyanka Chopra Was Told To Get Plastic Surgery By Director — See Her Response
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Priyanka Chopra is opening up in her new memoir Unfinished about getting her start in Hollywood. It wasn’t always glitz and glamour for the starlet who is married to The Voice coach Nick Jonas. The 38-year-old detailed an experience with a director who was very critical of her appearance.
Priyanka Chopra Was Told She Needed Plastic Surgery By Director
Priyanka spoke in Unfinished about how a director had suggested that she needed plastic surgery to make it in Hollywood. “After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did,” Priyanka wrote in her book. “He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and add a little more cushioning to my butt.”
“If I wanted to be an actress, he said, I’d need to have my proportions ‘fixed,’ and he knew a great doctor in LA he could send me to. My then-manager voiced his agreement with the assessment” she added.

“I left the director/producer’s office feeling stunned and small. Was he right that I couldn’t be successful unless I had so many body parts ‘fixed’?” she wrote. “I thought of how individuals in the media and others in the industry had referred to me as ‘dusky’ and ‘different-looking,’ and I wondered if I was cut out for this business after all.”
Priyanka was previously crowned Miss World in 2000. She first moved to the United States from India when she was 12 years old. After facing racist bullying in high school, she returned to India. After becoming Bollywood’s biggest stars, Priyanka was ready to conquer the big screens in America. She made a splash with the lead role on the show Quantico in 2015. She and Nick were married in 2018 and have had a relationship full of supporting each other through everything. Check out their full relationship timeline down below.
She Is Not Afraid To Stand Up For Herself Now
In an interview with Metro UK ahead of her book release, Priyanka spoke about standing up for herself. “I never had the courage to stand up for myself, and actually admit it. Because I heard so often, ‘Don’t be a nuisance, you’re new in the industry, you don’t want to have a reputation that you cause trouble or you’re not easy to work with,'” she said.
“Now on the other side of 35. I know that’s a normalized thing that girls hear so often. I fell for it too, even though I consider myself a forward-thinking, smart girl. I learned from that over time, but at that time, I was terrified” she said.
“Yes I faced that then, I faced that like everybody else when you’re in patriarchal industries, which ours has been for a very long time” Priyanka added. She has been preparing fans for her book launch and taking them through every step of the way in the release of Unfinished via social media.
Priyanka Chopra Is Hoping To See More Females With Leading Roles In Hollywood
She also commented on how there are more women in the film industry now taking on producer and director roles. “We see so many women that have banded together to be able to do it ourselves and [are] taking back our power” she added. “Now we’re seeing, we are that generation that is hopefully going to see women in leadership roles, that is going to see women in roles of power so that the next generation that comes after us doesn’t have to inherit these issues.”
