Reading Time: 3 minutes

Modern crossover pianist Jolynn J Chin will blow your mind with her incredible musical arrangements. She totally transforms classical music by incorporating elements of pop with her own unique flair. The other America’s Got Talent Season 16 musicians better keep an eye out for this dynamic performer.

Crossover Pianist Jolynn J Chin is Ready to Impress the Judges on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Jolynn was born in Sarawak, Malaysia and began receiving a music education at the age of 5. She is classically trained on the piano. By the age of 13, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in music. Even then, it was clear that being on stage is where she belongs despite the stage fright she faced early on.

Jolynn was trained to play music from classical artists like Liszt, Chopin, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. While playing the music of classical greats, Jolynn also discovered a love for more modern music. She took a liking to classical crossover musicians like Maksim Mrvica and Asia’s Got Talent judge David Foster.

“My love for other genres such as pop, cross-over, electronic music, and jazz has drawn me to experiment with the fusion between them and my classical background,” Jolynn said in an interview.

This led up to her being awarded the Gold Prize at the Asia International Piano Academy Festival Competition in 2016. She’s also won prizes in a ton of other major music competitions. Jolynn also became an ambassador of the Children’s Music Fund to help sick children in California heal through music therapy.

“I want people to be able to relate to my music, in whatever they are going through in their lives, and for them to get inspiration, positivity, confidence, and to be uplifted,” she said.

Jolynn Released an EP Called ‘Beyond Classical’ in 2019

In 2018, Jolynn released her debut single “Toccata.” It’s a take on Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor. She added a bit of jazz and a more modern flair to this piece. The song was mastered by Howie Weinberg who has worked with legendary rock bands like Metallica and Aerosmith.

This led up to Jolynn dropping her five-track EP Beyond Classical in 2019. It was up for consideration in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category for the 62nd Grammy Awards. This EP is the perfect balance of classical music, jazz, and modern music like pop and EDM.

She Started a Quarantine Video Project Producing New Tracks Each Month

During quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Jolynn created a video project where she uploads a 1-minute track every month. The track is based on what happened that month and what is going on in her life at that particular time. She teased that all of these quarantine tracks will be compiled into her upcoming EP set to release this year.

Along with her quarantine tracks, Jolynn has regularly uploaded unique piano covers to her YouTube channel and on TikTok. Her most popular cover on YouTube with over 21,000 views is a mashup of Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” and Beethoven. It’s seriously unlike anything you’ve ever heard before and the perfect song to jam to when you’re working out or just chilling out.

When announcing that she would be competing on Season 16 of America’s Got Talent, Jolynn thanked the show for inviting her. She posted a little behind-the-scenes snippet from the set walking outside of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium where auditions are held. Her fanbase is so excited to see her represent this style of music on the show.

Tune in to NBC on June 1 to see if Jolynn makes a lasting impression on the America’s Got Talent judges. We’re pretty confident that she will blow them away with her talent on Season 16.
