Orlando Bloom Texts Katy Perry During ‘American Idol’ — Is He The Fourth Judge?

Is Orlando Bloom the unofficial fourth judge on American Idol? According to Katy Perry’s latest anecdote, he just might be. Katy explained that her fiancé was texting her his opinions about which contestant to save during Monday’s live results show.

America voted for the first seven contestants to make it into the Top 10, while the judges were tasked with choosing the last three. Since it was a live show, Orlando was presumably watching from home. (We know they’ve watched it together before, as she filmed his reaction to her dancing.)

“He was texting me and telling me who to save!” Katy Perry told Entertainment Tonight. “He was like, ‘You better save Dimitrius [Graham], and I was like, ‘Don’t worry! We got this one .'”

Luke Bryan ended up saving Dimitrius before Katy made her choice, so Orlando got his wish without her. (She ended up choosing Alyssa Raghu, who sang a cover of her song “The One That Got Away.”) Still, could Orlando’s advice have influenced the decision?

It’s not clear if the judges discussed their choices beforehand. Lionel Richie’s choice to save Uché was a surprise to everyone. But Katy’s apparent text to Orlando telling him not to worry is intriguing.

Luke told Billboard that he made his choice to save Dimitrius at the last minute. But could he have told Katy beforehand? Could Katy have shown him Orlando’s text? We may never know, but the actor got what he wanted.

Interestingly, this is probably the only instance in the entire season when an outsider could influence the judges’ decisions. Before this, the shows were prerecorded, so Orlando couldn’t be watching at home simultaneously. After this, it’s all up to America’s vote. We’re pretty sure Orlando Bloom doesn’t have that much power, although you never know.
