Nikki Garcia Files for Divorce From Artem Chigvintsev
The former WWE star filed divorce paperwork nearly two weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested on a charge of corporal injury to a spouse. Following the arrest, it was revealed that Garcia was shopping for divorce lawyers.
Late last month, Chigvintsev was arrested for domestic violence in Napa, California. The former DWTS pro was released on $25,000 bail. Although the alleged victim has not been named, Garcia’s rep released a statement saying, “This is a private matter, and Nikki asks for privacy for her and her family at this time.”
A source told Us Weekly that Garcia and Chigvintsev “are not living under the same roof,” adding, “Friends believe they will end up splitting … Nikki, [her sister] Brie and their family are too strong to let this slide and to let this kind of behavior be OK … especially around a child.”
Garcia and Chigvintsev share a 4-year-old son named Matteo. After meeting on DWTS in 2017, the couple began dating in 2019 and tied the knot in August 2022. A few days before Chigvintsev’s arrest, Garcia posted clips from their wedding on Instagram. At the time of posting, she wrote that they were “meant to be.”
Chigvintsev Is Not Returning for DWTS Season 33
The cast for Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars was recently announced, and Chigvintsev is not among the professional dancers in the ballroom this year. This was reportedly decided before his arrest last month.
In fact, TMZ reported that the show chose not to invite him back the same week as his arrest. This allegedly put Chigvintsev “in a bad mood.” Chigvintsev joined the show in Season 19. He won with celebrity partner Kaitlyn Bristowe in Season 29.
Chigvintsev and Garcia competed together on Season 25 of the show, making it to the seventh week of the competition before being eliminated. At the time, Garcia was engaged to fellow WWE wrestler John Cena. They split up in 2018.
