Nigel Lythgoe recently visited On Air With Ryan Seacrest to promote his latest Triad Combat II venture. The American Idol reunion had the two entertainment titans walking down memory lane. When asked about his other hit reality TV competition show, So You Think You Can Dance, Lythgoe continued to tease its imminent return.

“I believe it is going to come back this year,” Lythgoe says as he smiles in the Barbados sun. “Nobody has contacted me yet, but there are rumors that it will be back.”

This isn’t the first time that the super producer alluded to the rumors of So You Think You Can Dance’s return. Lythgoe first got the ball rolling when he tweeted promotion for the Triad combat II event.

“I think #SYTYCD fans might be getting some good news this year?”

The Emmy Award winning producer has been a staunch supporter of bringing back the hit dance competition show. In its prime, the show brought in close to 10 million viewers weekly. So You Think You Can Dance also brought in plenty of Emmy Award nominations and wins.

Lythgoe’s American Idol Reunion

Seacrest and Lythgoe quickly took a trip down memory lane during the interview, which was peak nostalgia for Idol fans. The two discussed their time on the hit show and their friendship of over 20 years. Lythgoe actually hired Seacrest as the second host and helped mentor him throughout each season. The two buddies also joked about the famous cliffhanger they would create each result show.

Lythgoe’s discovery of Seacrest has paid off. The Idol host’s career hasn’t slowed down since. Seacrest is still on the American Idol stage, gearing up for the Season 20 premiere on February 27.

The So You Think You Can Dance judge thought he would be retired by now. Instead, he is bringing his producing skills into the world of sports fighting. Triad Combat II puts boxers and MMA fighters in the ring. Nick Cannon is also attached to the fighting event.
