New coach Niall Horan recently earned his first win on The Voice, beating out veteran judge Blake Shelton during his final season on the show. Horan has since revealed what Shelton said to him immediately after he won the show.
What Did Blake Shelton Tell Niall Horan After His Win?
Horan recently spoke to People about his first season of The Voice, and the singer shared how Shelton reacted when his artist Gina Miles was announced as the Season 23 winner.
“When we left the seat, they announced the winner and I stood up, and then he came for a big hug,” Horan told the magazine. “I gave him a big hug, and he said, ‘I taught you everything you know.’ That’s all he said, not congratulations or anything.”
Horan and Shelton developed a funny friendship during the season, and Horan said he’ll miss the country star now that he’s leaving the show, explaining, “I think if I had met him outside of The Voice, I would have probably been friends with him anyway.”
Although Shelton said goodbye to The Voice after 23 seasons and nine wins, Horan is just getting started. He’ll be returning to his spinning red chair for Season 24 this fall, as Reba McEntire joins the show for her first season.

Horan Is Excited to Work with Gwen Stefani
Shelton may not be returning to The Voice next season, but his wife Gwen Stefani will be back on the show. Horan expressed excitement about working with Stefani, who has coached on and off for several seasons.
“I’m going to miss [Blake], but I get to work with the other half of that marriage,” he told People. “I met Gwen at the afterparty for this season’s Voice. She came and surprised Blake on the last night, and she was so funny and so cool, so I’m excited.”
Horan’s third studio album, titled The Show, was just released on Friday. It features the singles “Heaven” and “Meltdown.”
