Former The Voice coach Miley Cyrus is ready to play her godmother Dolly Parton in a biopic. The star recently opened up about the possibility of portraying the legendary singer. The pair is hosting New Year’s Eve together later this month.
Miley Cyrus Wants to Play Dolly Parton
“Me and Dolly have never really spoken, honestly, about me playing Dolly because I feel like I’m already doing it,” Cyrus recently told E! News about the possibility of taking on the role, adding, “I don’t know what they’re gonna do to me. I’m sucked, I’m tucked and plucked, just like she taught me.”
Cyrus definitely has experience singing Parton’s music. A video of her performing the iconic song “Jolene” from 2012 currently has over 372 million views on YouTube. She’s even performed the song with Parton herself, and she sang an impromptu duet of the tune with The Voice contestant Darby Walker in Season 11.
The star also has acting experience. In addition to her famous role in Hannah Montana, she’s also appeared in movies such as The Last Song and The Night Before, and even in an episode of the sci-fi series Black Mirror.
Earlier this year, Parton teased that she wanted to tell her life story in a musical biopic, saying she was “in talks about that.” She didn’t mention who she would want to play her in the project.

Cyrus, Parton Are Hosting New Year’s Eve Together
Cyrus is hosting a New Year’s Eve special for the second year in a row to ring in 2023, and this time she enlisted Parton for help. She admitted that her godmother “could not be more different” than last year’s co-host Pete Davidson.
“Because we do something similar, we get to do a really different show than we did last year,” Cyrus told E! News, adding that she wants to do the show “in a way that’s exactly what you want, but not what you would expect.”
Cyrus shared that Parton has her back, saying she’s “so professional and she’s so on top of it” that no one at home would even notice if something went differently than how it was planned.
You can catch Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on Saturday, December 31, starting at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
