Meghan Trainor is skipping spooky season and heading straight to Christmas. The Clash of the Cover Bands judge just released a new cover of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” part of her upcoming deluxe holiday album. It might just get you into the yuletide spirit a couple of months early.

Meghan Trainor Sings ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’

“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was written by Johnny Marks and originally recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. Trainor’s version definitely has a retro feel, including a horn interlude. But the singer adds her own flair to the track. You could say she performs it in “the new old-fashioned way.”

The song is one of three new tracks on the upcoming deluxe edition of her Christmas album A Very Trainor Christmas, originally released last year. The new version will also feature a cover of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love, as well as an original song called “Christmas Coupon.”

The deluxe album will be a digital exclusive, available October 29. You can pre-order here. Until then, you can listen to the original version of the album to your heart’s content in the lead-up to Christmas 2021.

The original release of A Very Trainor Christmas featured covers of well-known holiday tunes such as “It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Last Christmas.” Trainor also performed original songs like “My Kind of Present,” “I Believe in Santa,” and “Christmas Party.”

The album includes a cover of “White Christmas” featuring Seth MacFarlane. The song topped the Adult Contemporary chart. Other collaborations on the album are “Holidays” with Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with the singer’s dad Gary Trainor.

Trainor also covered “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” with her cousins Jayden, Jenna, and Marcus Toney. The singer has described herself as a “Christmas baby” (she was born December 22) and long dreamed of releasing a holiday album.
