Matthew Morrison Addresses ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Exit

Last week, Morrison announced that he was leaving So You Think You Can Dance after filming four episodes as a judge. He explained that his departure was because he “did not follow competition production protocols.”

Later, People reported that, according to a source, Morrison was fired for sending “flirty direct messages on social media.” They added that the contestant allegedly “felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers.”

On Thursday, Morrison took to Instagram to respond to these rumors. He posted a video in which he shared what he says is the only message he sent to the contestant in question. Morrison told fans he has “nothing to hide.”

According to Morrison, he messaged this contestant regarding a “mutual respect” they have for a choreographer he knows. Morrison says he was trying to help this choreographer get a job on the show. He claims his message to the contestant read, “Hey! It’s Matthew. If you don’t mind, would love to get your number and talk you through some things.”

Morrison’s Wife Also Addressed the Rumors

Morrison tied the knot with Renee Morrison in 2014. In present day they have two children together. Morrison recently posted an Instagram tribute to his wife for Mother’s Day, writing, “My teacher, inspiration, and best friend.”

“It’s really unfortunate that I have to sit here and defend myself and my family against blatantly untrue statements made anonymously,” Morrison said at the start of his Instagram video. He went on to say that “gossip is toxic, and it’s destroying our society.”

Renee Morrison reposted her husband’s video on Thursday, calling the situation a “wild ride.” She added, “My husband has finally been given an opportunity to speak his truth. He has done so with such grace and integrity in a situation that is complex and incredibly complicated.”

Morrison will appear in one more episode of So You Think You Can Dance this season. The show is expected to announce a replacement judge before the June 15 episode.
