Matthew Lawrence Responds in Cheryl Burke Divorce
Burke filed for divorce from Lawrence last month after less than three years of marriage. E! News is reporting that Lawrence submitted a legal response to the Los Angeles County Superior Court last Friday.
Lawrence reportedly asked the judges to terminate spousal support for both parties and to uphold the couple’s prenuptial agreement. Both Burke and Lawrence cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation, which is listed as officially starting January 7.
The couple met in 2006 when Lawrence’s brother Joey competed on DWTS. They dated for a year before breaking up. Then in 2017, they reunited and ended up getting married in May 2019. This is the first marriage for both of them, although Lawrence was previously engaged to actress Heidi Mueller.

Burke Asks Fans for Privacy on Instagram
After news broke that she had filed for divorce, Burke posted on Instagram asking fans for “understanding and privacy” and saying she “will not be commenting any further at this time.” However, she thanked fans for their support.
Later, in early March, the dancer shared another post in which she said she needed alone time to process her emotions. She added, “If I’m being honest, really feeling my feelings is new to me. I’ve spent my entire life up to this point trying to numb them, and I’m learning that really going through them is A LOT harder.”
Burke told fans that she would encourage them to try being alone for a few days to handle their feelings, and not to “feel guilty for needing that space.”
