Former American Idol judge Mariah Carey has recently been performing in Las Vegas for her Celebration of Mimi residency at Dolby Live. A clip of Carey performing her hit song “Fantasy” has some fans wondering why the singer appears “stiff as a board” on stage.
Mariah Carey Appears ‘Stiff as a Board’ in Las Vegas
A video of Carey from a recent Las Vegas show depicts the 55-year-old singer wearing a pink bodysuit with a sheer skirt, performing her song “Fantasy.” Carey walks slowly around the stage as her backup dancers put on an energetic performance around her.
According to People, fans had a lot to say about the singer’s on-stage behavior, with one person describing her as “stiff as a board” and another saying she “moves around like she’s an elderly woman.” Someone else wondered, “Is she OK?”
According to Entertainment Now, one commenter even said that Carey “looks medicated,” while others pointed out that this performance was similar to other concerts from Carey in recent months — including her Christmas shows.
One fan wrote that she “left stage multiple times and appeared to have teleprompters with all of her lyrics in front of her.” Someone else said that a recent Las Vegas show they attended was “the WORST concert I’ve been to in a long time,” adding, “I want my money back.”

Other Fans Defended Carey
Although a number of fans expressed concern or disappointment over Carey’s demeanor in her Las Vegas performance, others came to the singer’s defense. One person pointed out, “Our stars are aging. We just used to them being young.”
“NO Mariah disrespect tolerated,” wrote another commenter. “She’s a SINGER. A VOCALIST. An ICON. She EARNED her cemented place in history by her talent and hard work. It’s insane that a society believes you have to keep running yourself into the ground when you’ve [already] out worked and out performed 90% of the people in your field.”
