Maksim Chmerkovskiy Joins Ukrainian ‘World of Dance’ as a Judge

Former Dancing with the Stars pro Maskim Chmerkovskiy has a new gig in his home country of Ukraine. The dancer posted his excitement about joining the judging panel of Ukraine’s new World of Dance series, based on the American format.

The American version of World of Dance included Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough, and Ne-Yo as judges. The show featured dancers competing for a grand prize of $1 million. It ran for four seasons between 2017 and 2020.
The show has inspired international versions in countries such as the Philippines, Poland, Thailand, and now Ukraine. On Monday, Chmerkovskiy shared photos of himself sitting at the judges’ table on the new series, alongside fellow judges Evgeniy Kot and Tatyana Denysova.
“I’m really happy to be back in Ukraine and be given an honor of a judge in this incredible project!” Chmerkovskiy wrote. “I’m also really excited to get to see the top professional dancers of Ukraine, in all forms of dance!”
Chmerkovskiy went on to write that the show “will give dancers an incredible opportunity to showcase their hard earned skills and will serve as a platform to seriously boost their careers!”

What Has Chmerkovskiy Been Up to Since ‘DWTS’?
Chmerkovskiy was a pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars on and off for 17 seasons, winning the show with partner Meryl Davis in Season 18. He officially left the show in 2018, but he hasn’t disappeared from the spotlight.
In 2021, Chmerkovskiy was revealed as Sloth on The Masked Dancer, finishing the show in second place. He’s also judged international Dancing with the Stars formats in India and Ukraine. Chmerkovskiy is married to former DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd. The couple tied the knot in 2017. They have a son together named Shai Aleksander.
Ukraine’s World of Dance is set to premiere February 12 on STB.
