Maddie Poppe Shades ‘American Idol’ Amid Promotion Controversy

Maddie Poppe has been caught throwing some subtle shade at American Idol recently. But now, she isn’t being so subtle anymore. After botching her new album announcement on the show, things only got worse when 2nd runner-up Gabby Barrett was invited to perform her new song during Top 6 week.
So why is American Idol failing to promote Maddie’s new album, “Whirlwind,” (out May 17th)? And what does Maddie have to say about it? Well the answer to that is, a lot!
Here’s the Situation…
In case you missed it, Maddie has been live-tweeting with most of this season of American Idol. She has even made friendships with contestants like Margie Mays and Walker Burroughs because of it. But per the tweet above, it seems like that is over now. She doesn’t feel like it’s fair that she’s promoting the show when they aren’t promoting her back. And for good reason!
What happened leading up to her tweet is this: Maddie was supposed to announce her new album, “Whirlwind,” out May 17th, after her Disney Week duet with her boyfriend, Caleb Lee Hutchinson. That didn’t happen. She was also supposed to come back to perform at the Idol Finale this season. That is no longer happening. But this week, Gabby Barrett, last season’s third-place finisher, came back to sing her single “I Hope.” She also spoke to Ryan Seacrest at-length about her new music and her record deal with Warner Music Nashville.

Well that didn’t sit well with people watching at home. Especially since Maddie was not able to sing any of her new, original music or even talk about it coming out on the show! And, to say the least, fans are NOT happy.

The Real Issue
All that being said, she really isn’t being given the promotion she deserves after winning. Yes, she got to come onto the auditions this season as Lady MaPo (which seemed promising at the time, but now is just kind of insulting that that is one of two times she was invited back). And yes, she and Caleb sang “A Whole New World” together a few weeks ago. But she hasn’t been able to even mention any of her new music. She was also making “An American Idol Story: Maddie Poppe” YouTube videos after her win, but the last one was posted EIGHT months ago.
For the show that talks about making “the next big stars,” Idol really isn’t doing anything to try to make that happen this time around.
