Luke Bryan Gets Candid About Finding Balance Between Family Time, Judging on ‘American Idol’

Country superstar Luke Bryan has his hands full in 2024. He’s returning for his seventh season as a judge on American Idol, going on tour, and working on new music. However, the most important thing, to Bryan, is finding quality time for his family amid his busy schedule.

In a new interview with Audacy’s Rob + Holly, Bryan opened up about the challenges of balancing it all. When asked about coming back to American Idol for another season, Bryan explained the show decides on a season-by-season basis.
While excited to help discover and mentor new talent, Bryan admitted the show, combined with other projects, has put a lot on his plate.
“The past couple years of my life with American Idol, Vegas [residency], my tour dates and stuff put a lot on my plate, and I’ve learned that I can survive it,” Bryan said. “It’s been like two years of Navy Seal training for me — but the main thing is a nice balance.”
Outside of American Idol, Bryan shared that his main passion is writing new songs and making albums. He’s hoping to carve out more time for songwriting in 2024. However, Bryan says nothing is more important than family time when he’s home.
“My main thing is always trying to focus on writing songs, carving out enough time to write songs, and then making some albums and then having a nice balance,” Bryan said. “When I’m home, I love being home, I love being with my family almost too much.”

In fact, Bryan admitted he’s gone to great lengths to get his kids interested in his own hobbies and adventures. Some of Bryan’s big dreams for family trips in 2024 include a fishing trip to New Zealand and riding horses inside the Arctic Circle.
“I’ve done a really, really great job of brainwashing [my] children into doing exactly what I like to do,” he joked. “I’ve got a lot of crazy little things that we’ll try to check off the list as a family,”
While Bryan has a hectic schedule ahead in 2024, he’s learned to balance his professional projects with quality time at home. His top priority remains cherishing moments with loved ones as he checks off bucket-list adventures. Balancing career ambitions with family life is a challenge for any star, but it’s clear Bryan has found the perfect formula.
