Louis Tomlinson admitted in a recent interview that he was “mortified” when One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016. However, the star also shared that he would be up for a possible reunion for the group at some point.
Louis Tomlinson Was ‘Mortified’ by One Direction Split
“When One Direction split up, I was mortified, I was absolutely gutted,” Tomlinson told The Times this week, according to People. “I was a bit bitter, I suppose because it just felt like another loss to me. But I’ve a better understanding of things now, and there’s not as much anger. It is what it is.”
The group formed on The X Factor UK back in 2010, coming in third place on the talent show and going on to become one of the biggest boy bands in history. They went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 and began pursuing solo projects.
“Getting back together at some point is hard to imagine right now,” Tomlinson said in the recent interview. “But I’d be surprised if we lived out our lives and didn’t have a moment where we had a reunion, or whatever you want to call it. I’d be up for that.”
Tomlinson added, “I do miss the boys and I do definitely miss being one of the five, but I like doing my own thing too. It was time.”

Tomlinson Was Bothered by Harry Styles’ Success
Tomlinson has been candid in recent months about how One Direction’s split affected him. Just last year, he admitted that Harry Styles’ success as a solo artist bothered him at first. He added that he “didn’t know where to place myself, and really my only point of reference was other members of the band.”
Ultimately, Tomlinson said of Styles, “I look on Harry like a brother, man. I have a lot of pride for what he’s doing.”
Since his time with One Direction, Tomlinson has released two solo albums. His first, titled Walls, was released in 2020. He followed that up with Faith in the Future last year. Tomlinson will be embarking on a tour for the new album later this year.
