Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson recently opened up about how he reacted to bandmate Harry Styles’ solo success. The singer admitted that it bothered him at first, but he’s become more comfortable with it now.

Louis Tomlinson Was Bothered by Harry Styles’ Success

One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016, after which Styles began to find success as both a solo singer and an actor. In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Tomlinson admits that he didn’t have the best reaction to this.

“I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me at first,” Tomlinson said, according to E! News, adding that it was because he “didn’t know where to place myself, and really my only point of reference was other members of the band.”

Tomlinson said it’s “not surprising to me that Harry’s the most commercially successful because he really fits the mold of a modern star.” He also acknowledged that Styles has pursued film as well as music, and called his tour “unbelievable.”

“It took me a while to work out where I stand,” Tomlinson shared. “But I look on Harry like a brother, man. I have a lot of pride for what he’s doing.”

Tomlinson Is Releasing an Album This Week

Tomlinson released his first solo studio album Walls in 2020. He told the Telegraph that it was initially “a bit daunting” to find his own sound apart from One Direction. Tomlinson said he had just “found my rhythm” with the group before they broke up.

Now, the singer is putting out a new album called Faith in the Future. The project is set to be released this Friday, November 11. He released the lead single, “Bigger Than Me,” in September. Tomlinson will also be embarking on a world tour in 2023.

The singer shared that he anticipates his One Direction bandmates will text him about the album when it comes out, explaining that “this bond that we have is for life.”
