Former One Direction star Liam Payne is receiving backlash for a comment he made in his girlfriend Kate Cassidy’s recent TikTok video. Payne remarked on Cassidy’s outfit, saying she was “nice and covered up for once.”
Liam Payne Receives Backlash for Comments to Girlfriend
Cassidy recently posted a TikTok video in which she and Payne show off what they’re wearing to dinner with friends. At one point, Payne shares his opinion on Cassidy’s outfit, saying, “You look good. Nice and covered up, for once.”
Cassidy doesn’t react to Payne’s remark in the clip, but fans in the comments have slammed Payne for what he said. As one user wrote, “‘for once’ is actually insane.” Another pointed out that Payne has a song called “Strip That Down,” telling him to “make up your mind.”
Another user seemed to think Payne’s comment was funny, quoting him and remarking on “the sass.” They added a cry-laughing emoji. Cassidy actually responded to the comment, writing, “FOR ONCE.” Another user wrote that fans can’t “take a joke.”
Cassidy’s TikTok video also made it to X (formerly Twitter), where it received more backlash. One user pointed out how hypocritical it is for Payne to seemingly criticize Cassidy for not covering up. They shared several photos he’s posted to social media in which he poses shirtless or shows his rear end.

Cassidy Defends Payne in Follow-Up Video
Cassidy later made a follow-up video responding to fans’ outrage over Payne’s comment. She shared that she had told Payne while filming the clip that he “should make a comment about how I’m actually dressed up for once.”
“If you look at my Instagram, honestly, I don’t normally cover up too much,” Cassidy said. “Honestly, I’m 25. I kind of just wear what I want, and he doesn’t care at all what I wear.”
She started laughing as she recalled the comment from a fan about Payne’s song “Strip That Down.” Payne then turned the camera on himself and said that the song is actually “about keeping the music stripped down.”
Cassidy then showed off her outfit, which included a white crop top. She jokingly asked Payne, “How do you feel about that? Am I nice and covered up?”
