Liam Payne Jokes on TikTok About Zayn Malik Leaving One Direction

Liam Payne poked a little bit of fun at his history with One Direction in a new TikTok video this week. The singer referenced Zayn Malik’s exit from the group in 2015, shortly before they announced a hiatus.
It’s been almost six years since One Direction put out an album together, and all five original members have gone on to release solo music. But they haven’t forgotten their roots, as shown by Payne’s new video.
Liam Payne Jokes About One Direction on TikTok
Text on Payne’s TikTok video reads, “POV the meeting after zayn quit.” He added three cry-laughing emojis and wrote, “forgot I had this in drafts.” The clip shows Payne mouthing along to a man asking, “Are we absolutely sure what direction we’re going?”
Payne captioned the video with the hashtag #Sunshine, in reference to his new single by that name, then wrote, “forgot I made this a while ago hope you see the funny side.” Fans definitely did, as the video currently has 4.9 million likes.
Followers went wild in the comments section, with some seeming surprised that the real Liam Payne would actually post something like that. Even the official account for TikTok commented with “OMG.” Another user wrote, “I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS REAL.”

When Did Zayn Malik Leave the Group?
One Direction was formed on The X Factor in 2010. The boy band released four albums as a five-member group before Zayn Malik announced his departure in March 2015. The four remaining members put out an album called Made in the A.M. in November 2015.
Shortly after the album’s release, the group announced that they would be taking a hiatus. Although it was initially only supposed to last 18 months, it’s now been over five years. There’s been talk of a reunion, from both the group members and even Simon Cowell, but nothing has come of it.
Liam himself hinted at the possibility earlier this year, saying he’d recently spoken to bandmate Harry Styles. “I’d love for us to get in a room at some point,” he said of a possible reunion. “I think it would be the best thing.”
